MUUS Religions Education Program Policies and Procedures

Registration

All children and youth in our nursery and Re program need to be registered. A parent need only complete a registration form to register his or her child(ren). Registration forms are distributed at the beginning of the RE year. They also are available every Sunday from Michelle Duncan, our RE Coordinator. Children and/or parents do not need to be members of MUUS to be registered in the program. Visitors to our society are asked to register their children after three visits.

Parent Participation

When you register your child(ren) in the program, you also register yourself into this cooperative venture. Our expectation is that every parent will participate in the RE program at some level. There are many volunteer opportunities, including: teaching or assisting in a classroom; serving on the RE Committee; helping in the nursery; coordinating a service project organizing and/or providing adult supervision for a Children's Chapel; or presenting a "Story for All Ages" during a Sunday Service. Volunteer teachers are provided lesson plans, materials, and support from the RE Committee and the minister.

Attendance

Regular attendance at RE classes is encouraged. Consistent participation creates continuity for the students and the program; and fosters relationships between students. If your child(ren) express reluctance to attend RE classes, please speak with Michelle Duncan, our coordinator, so that the RE Committee can work with you to resolve the problem.

Behavior Expectations/Discipline

Our expectation is that students will behave in a manner that permits learning and fun for the entire group. We also expect that our curriculum and teachers will provide an environment that is developmentally appropriate and engaging. Minor rule infractions will be handled by the teacher in the classroom. If a child becomes a major disruption in the classroom and/or is a threat to safety, the Religious Education Coordinator may become involved in the discipline process. If there are continuing and/or serious behavioral issues with a student, the RE Coordinator will schedule a meeting with the parents and the minister.

Safety for Our Children

When RE classes are over, the children are dismissed and sent downstairs to their parents. At this point, the children's supervision becomes the responsibility of the parents. Our nursery attendant remains until 12:15 and will supervise the children who chose to play appropriately in the nursery. There is no adult supervision upstairs after RE classes are dismissed and children should be accompanied by an adult if going upstairs after RE classes are dismissed.
