A Message From Our MinisterWelcome to a new year of Religious Education at MUUS. Michelle Duncan and Monica Burnham and their volunteers have been planning and anticipating your involvement in the program which to me is perhaps one of the most important aspects of a UU community. To remember what is religious about education is to be aware that it is not WHAT we teach, but HOW and WHY. I have learned, however, that WHO teaches is even more vital. We teach most effectively when we least know we are teaching - by our attitude, behavior and actions. Our children learn form us-by our acceptance of tem, by the way we approach our way of faith and by the way we live our beliefs. When we are together at the meeting house, we are all part of the experience so every child becomes ours, and every adult becomes responsible for seeing that the environment is appropriate to every age. And we learn so much from our children-they have a lot to teach us about love, life and spontaneity. RE is not about raising future UUs but it is about helping humans grow and become who they truly are. We all need to be a part of that extraordinary experience. It is one of the reasons I love to come to church. Shalom, Reverend Wolff |
A Message From Our Religious Education DirectorOn behalf of the Religious Education Committee, I want to welcome you to our program. Our religious education program is a place for children to feel valued, and encouraged to share their ideas about the world as they discover who they are and what they believe. We have dedicated and caring teachers, as well as parents and other church members, who are vital to the success of our program. We begin each Sunday together in the meetinghouse. The children then proceed to their classes as the congregation sings them on their way. In the tradition of Unitarian Universalism, we teach about the religions of the world; we encourage our children to question and make up their own minds; and we discuss how to go about making the world a better place. We are glad to have you with us. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at Sunday Services. Michelle Duncan |
An Invitation to All MUUS MembersProviding religious education for our children and youth is the work of the entire congregation. All adults, parents and non-parents alike are encouraged to volunteer to teach or participate in the RE program in other ways. There are many rewards. One gains personal insight, learns new skills, and most rewarding of all, become personally acquainted with our young people. It is a joy to see them develop their understanding of what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist. Your involvement enables you to know and understand our program far better than hearing about it. It will also open new avenues of friendship and help you become part of our congregation. Show our children, by your participation, that you consider their activities to be a valuable part of our society's life. | |
